In 1909, an RE model Crossley engine, with S/No. 57520 and rated at 36hp on town gas or 16hp on produced gas, was purchased new. Following its installation at Iandra Castle in Greenethorpe, NSW in 1910, it ran a 110 volt generator which was installed on the first floor directly above the engine.
The electricity was used to charge a huge bank of batteries which, in turn, powered the lights for the homestead, the surrounding houses, and the stables.
