The Rackham Oil Engine
5 min read

I was searching for one photo in particular of the many engine photographs taken on my first visit to Australia.Having found it, I continued looking through the photos as one does, reminiscing over the engines seen, the places visited and, more importantly, the many friendly people I encountered.  I was reminded of one special moment whilst visiting Kelvin Kelley.  We had been viewing the many engines in his collection, when I spotted a small, odd looking engine tucked away in a corner, and duly asked “What’s that little one over there?” to which Kelvin replied “Oh that, it’s a British Rackham oil engine. I don’t suppose you have heard of it?” Me, a smug grin on my face said “Oh yes, I know of that make of engine. It cropped up whilst I was doing research for my book, The A to Z of British Stationary Engines, but I have never seen one.”
