From 1939, and through the War years, Henry Ford had been building tractors for Harry Ferguson under the much talked about ‘handshake agreement’. The tractor was the Ford/Ferguson (Ford 9N), significantly carrying two badges on the bonnet, being ‘Ford’ written within the blue oval and ‘Ferguson System’ written directly below.

However, Ferguson never forgot the disappointment and lack of recognition received when his Ferguson System was released in 1936, and the subsequent termination of the contract with David Brown in 1939. He was keen to one day have his tractors and implements again manufactured in Britain.

There had been changes made to his team, which had quickly grown to over 30
