One of the side benefits of attending vintage machinery rallies is that you may stumble across a person, group or club, with a collection of machinery that deserves a follow up visit. Sometimes, when you finally make that visit, you just may find more than you had expected. It’s called serendipity, and it’s what led me to the beautifully restored 1925 Ruston single cylinder, 4 stroke, diesel engine at the Roger May Machinery Museum in Pinjarra, Western Australia.
This vintage machinery museum is owned by the Shire of Murray, and run by an enthusiastic band of volunteers, who display some of the more portable machines in the collection, at many shows in the south-west of Western Australia. They were at the National Vintage Machinery Rally at Fairbridge (about 5km from Pinjarra) last year, and I have seen them at several shows this year. So, when I noticed that the museum was having an open day at the Pinjarra Festival, with plenty of engines running, I went along for a closer look.
