A few issues ago this magazine published an article of mine on tractor starting cartridges. At our recent National meeting of Australian Cartridge Collectors Association at Shepparton, Vic., I obtained an example of a Petters starting cartridge, equivalent in diameter to a 16ga shotgun cartridge. Having never seen one, I was surprised to find it has no brass head, but that the paper is turned over at both ends, with light card wads. Does anyone have information on the setup of how these were ignited? I do know Petters was an English made stationary engine.
