Number Plates

In the mid 1970’s my sister returned from England with an Alfa Spider bearing British Export plates QP 4540.  When I asked her what she was doing with them she indicated that they would be disposed of, so of course I said I would take them and so my number plate collecting started.

At the time I belonged to a car club and a number of the members worked for garages, car dealerships and other organisations and they used to keep an eye open for me.  I would mention my hobby to people on the off-chance anything was lying around – always got strange looks.  I also wrote to motor registries and car around the world.  Some successful but not usually, however the collection grew slowly.

Then in April 1981 eleven like-minded souls met in Mildura and formed the N
