Memories of my Plumbing Apprenticeship

Just a note from a 90-year-old plumber - I started my 6-year apprenticeship during the war and in 1949 arrived in Deniliquin, NSW, to work on a large project, the CSIRO laboratory. The local plumbers were all too busy making tanks (there was no plastic in those days) and I found myself working on various properties on weekends. Material was scarce and the large properties had accumulated huge scrap heaps. When the shearers insisted on hot water showers, we had to use whatever was available, and it was during this time that I started collecting old pumps as a hobby. I love TOMM and congratulate the team on its production. The photo on the back of issue #210 has prompted me into showing you my version of the history of the ‘mill’ pump and the ‘farm’ pump. I have had both in my collection since 1955. I hope they are of interest. The information on the two pumps is to the best of my knowledge:
