History of DH82a Tiger Moth Just anoher old machine, really

Our Tiger Moth, registration DX644, was the 732nd to be manufactured in Sydney, Australia, in November, 1941. The RAF (UK) order stated that it was to be despatched to Mount Hampden in Southern Rhodesia, for pilot training duties. In April of 1942, DX644 arrived and undertook 3,000 hours of flying training operations until it was sold on by the military in 1946.

The plane, with Zimbabwean registration ZS-LUE, then worked out of Tempe Airport, which was a suburb of Bloemfontein, towing gliders and crop dusting. After that, it became the last of the Tiger Moth wrecks to be collected by Streckers of Johannesburg. It was then held in storage from the early 1970’s, after which it was restored and used privately for five years. In 1994, it was dismantled and imported back into Australia.
