In 1873, this machine was purchased by Joseph Harris from Faudels of London. Joseph was manager of Waterford Station at Hay, NSW. Joseph’s son, Douglas Harris eventually took over Waterford Station until 1948, when the station was sold and divided into smaller lots. Douglas Harris moved to Deniliquin, taking with him his father’s collection of rare antiques, including one of the two original poker machines from the Hay Club, a ladies side saddle, a collection of horse stirrups and mouth bits, a butter churn, two very old English hand pumps, as well as this very old sewing machine.
