As readers will have gathered by now, the firm of Ruston, Proctor and Co. Ltd, Engineers, Lincoln, England (as cast into their machinery), is a favourite of mine. So it was a delight when, a while ago, I was invited with a friend, Mark Farmer, to view one of their oil engines on a typical snowy winters day in the south of England. The snow was falling heavily when Mark and I arrived at the large shed where the Ruston, Proctor oil engine had just been restored.
